A Two-and-a-Half Hour Walk from Meguro to Ikebukuro

The other day, a client who had visited my salon in Meguro sent me a message after their session.

“I felt so much better, both physically and mentally, that I walked all the way to Ikebukuro.”

Curious, I looked it up.

The distance from Meguro to Ikebukuro is about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles).

On foot, it takes more than two and a half hours.

To be honest, even I have rarely walked that far.

When I lived in Meguro, I would sometimes walk to Omotesando.

Even then, it was only about thirty minutes.

Even now, I often walk between Yutenji and Meguro.

Thirty minutes one way, an hour round trip, is nothing unusual.

But two and a half hours is a different story.

The fact that they were able to walk that far probably means they felt that much better.

And that made me happy.

Walking gives us time to think.

If you tried to think that deeply while driving, it would probably be dangerous.

But when walking, the mind is free to wander.

I once heard about an entrepreneur who walked for more than two hours every day.

He used that time to develop ideas and think through problems.

Perhaps during those two and a half hours to Ikebukuro, many thoughts passed through my client’s mind as well.

And I sincerely hope that whatever was born along that journey will someday grow into something meaningful.
